Introducing OHMAR

Interested in putting together an oral history project, honing interviewing methods, communicating with professional interviewers, or the technical skills needed to present and preserve oral history sessions? Oral History in the Mid-Atlantic Region (OHMAR) is the place to start. This regional association brings together experts and neophytes from among the ranks of archivists, historians, journalists, librarians, political scientists, sociologists and others involved with the process of oral history. It also invites you to join us for training, to explore the information on this site, and to consider membership.

Events: OHMAR sponsors two main events each year that are scheduled at various locations around the region. The Spring Conference offers workshops, panels, and the Forrest C. Pogue Award, which goes to an individual or organization that has made significant contributions to the field of oral history. The Fall Workshop Series ranges from the basics of interviewing to cutting-edge discussions on the latest digital equipment and copyright law. .

News: Members receive news through mailings, this Web site, and the OHMAR Newsletter. Appearing two to three times each year, the last concentrates on oral history activities and projects in the Mid-Atlantic Region--including annual meeting information, publications, and other items of interest to OHMAR members. The Newsletter also reports on national and international oral history news with an emphasis on the Oral History Association (OHA).

Governance: OHMAR is a voluntary, tax-exempt non-profit, which is governed by an elected Board of officers and at-large members. The organization is formally affiliated with the national OHA, including an official representative appointed to OHA's State and Regional Committee.
