What goes through a scientist's mind at the moment of invention?
What inspires one to go into the sciences or engineering?
Where is the intersection between science and engineering?
How are new technologies introduced into industry and the military?
How are new techniques and processes developed in the liberal and fine arts?
How does an idea
travel from inspiration to reality?
Where does
creativity come from?
These are just a few of the questions oral historians have
tried to answer by interviewing scientists, engineers, and other innovative
minds. Oral historians help document how
creative minds think, work, and ultimately change the world. Oral history helps
capture not only those moments of genius or inspiration, but also the
day-to-day lives of innovative people not reflected in formulas, policy papers,
reports, and technical specifications, by recording the recollections of those
who shaped new areas of endeavor with their own hands.
The program committee welcomes paper and panel submissions
related to: the history of science & technology; the development of medical
practices and technologies; industrial history; contributions of women and minorities
in science & technology; military and battlefield applications of science
and technology; the birth and growth of the environmental movement.
Beyond the fields of science and technology, the program
committee also aims to attract papers and panel proposals that explore
innovation in other fields--the arts, business, education, politics--and use
oral history to document the development of new concepts, tactics and
practices.
Proposal Format
For individual proposals, submit a one-page abstract, a
one-page vita or resume, and a short (100 words or less) presenter bio. If
proposing a three-person panel, submit a title, a session abstract of not more
than two pages, and a one-page vita or resume and short bio for each
participant.
As part of their proposals, presenters must indicate their
audio and visual support requirements.
Please be as specific as possible so the program committee can properly
account for the resources required.

Proposals should be emailed by February 26, 2010. Email the cover sheet and proposal below
as one complete electronic document in Microsoft Word to ohmar.conference@gmail.com. The program committee will acknowledge the
receipt of incoming proposals as they are received. If you have questions,

Applicants will be notified the week of March
1, 2010 if their proposals are accepted.
